OUR MISSION

The mission of The Frederick Chorale is to enrich the cultural life of the Frederick community by performing beautiful and diverse choral works with artistic excellence.

ABOUT US

Established in 1977, the Frederick Chorale gives talented singers from across the region a place to learn and perform outstanding choral music. Known for high-caliber performances and deep ties to the community, the auditioned chorus has performed at cultural, civic, and celebratory events throughout Frederick and beyond: Annapolis, Baltimore, Washington, D.C., England, Germany, Canada, the Middle East, and Ireland, as well as at the White House and on the Today Show.

The Frederick Chorale's repertoire spans an impressive range, from art songs and choral masterworks to classic American standards, Broadway hits, spirituals, and works by contemporary composers. Over the years, the group has partnered with orchestras, dancers, military bands, children's choirs, gospel groups, and storytellers. In 2016, the Chorale teamed up with actors to mark the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare's death, blending dramatic scenes with songs set to his words. In the summer of 2017, the Chorale traveled to Germany for the Luther 500 Choral Festival in Berlin, with additional performances in Erfurt, Leipzig, and Frederick's sister city, Schifferstadt. In 2025, the Chorale joined the Frederick Symphony Orchestra for a performance of Vaughan Williams's Dona Nobis Pacem at Hood College, and in the summer of 2026, they toured Ireland, performing at historic venues including St. Mary's Cathedral in Kilkenny, Christ Church in Dublin, and St Nicholas' Collegiate Church in Galway.

The Chorale has been an important contributor to its hometown of Frederick, Maryland, for over 49 years. After 35 years, founder Nancy Roblin passed her baton to Doug Cox in 2012. The Chorale’s current Musical Director, Heidi Ackerman, brought music back after a quiet pandemic in January of 2022. And since then, Ms. Ackerman has continued to program concerts that enrich and invite growth within the Chorale’s membership and the community.
